Katie Linnane and Ivan Goff (fiddle and uilleann pipes/flute)
Katie Linnane and Ivan Goff are stalwarts of that vibrant Irish traditional music scene in New York City. Their classic combination of fiddle and uilleann pipes in this duet delivers a sound rooted in the Irish traditional music scenes of North America and Ireland.
Katie, from Pearl River, NY, grew up surrounded by music in her childhood home, also the venue for her mother, Kathy’s music school. She studied for many years with fiddle great, Willie Kelly and it is through Willie that Katie cultivated an affinity for Clare music and developed a keen ear for great repertoire. Immersed in New York City’s thriving Irish music scene and in demand as a teacher and performer across the tri-state area, Katie has cultivated her style through playing with many of the top performers associated with the North East scene including Mike Rafferty, Patrick Ourceau, Eamon O’Leary, John Morrow, and Kevin Crawford.
Growing up in Dublin, Ivan was mentored for several years by uilleann pipes great, Mick O’Brien. Today Ivan is equally renowned for his flute and pipes playing. A member of Irish traditional band Danú, he has also performed worldwide in duets and ensembles with many household names of Irish music including Iarla Ó Lionáird, Mícheál Ó Raghallaigh, Martin Hayes, Eileen Ivers, Dervish, and Lúnasa and more recently with Irish Music Masters with John Doyle, Seamus Egan, John Williams, and Cathie Ryan. Since arriving in New York over two decades ago, Ivan’s credits range from film and theater, to several well known Broadway productions, to guest appearances with the New York Philharmonic. Individually, Katie and Ivan have won plaudits for their music; together, this musical power couple win over audiences with their deep affinities in repertoire, style, and musical experience.
