Benedict Koehler and Hilari Farrington are known across North America as teachers, tradition-bearers, and when pressed, performers of Irish traditional music. The music they play was deeply influenced by players who came over to America in the 1940’s and 50’s such as Jack Coen, Fr. Charlie Coen, Mike Rafferty, and Joe Madden from East Galway, Eamon Flynn from West Limerick, and Mike McHale from County Roscommon.
Founders of the Vermont School of Irish Traditional Music, this couple has helped to create a vibrant Irish music scene in Vermont. Over the years, and partly as a result of Benedict’s work as a maker of uilleann pipes, their kitchen in the hills of East Montpelier has welcomed hundreds of Irish musicians from all over the world.
